I haven't had a slurpee in years but doesn't it sound good during the hot weather? I mean the sweetness mixed with cold iciness. Well yesterday I was walking and I saw the only 7-11 in Manhattan proper. Mmm, I can finally ease my slurpee craving. I debated for a few minutes whether I wanted all that sugar and then decided since I was walking a few miles I could treat myself to a small one. I got the pina colada flavor which I loved as a kid. The first sip I thought would be heaven. Instead, I was sick in the sweetness of it. While walking out the door of 7-11, I was already regretting my purchase. After a 1/3 of the slurpee (which I nursed for several blocks), I couldn't take it anymore and I chucked the rest in the garbage. I was so disappointed. I mean am I getting older to the point that my tastes have changed?

Sometimes the real thing isn't better.......

So I went shopping for food today after work. It's not a good idea to shop for food when you haven't eaten all day. Among my purchases was the limited edition Haagen-Daz German Chocolate Cake ice cream. It sounded really good in the store as it was a blend of "decadent chocolate ice cream with an irresistible mix of caramel, coconut, pecans and pieces of moist chocolate cake." However having had a couple of spoonfuls just now, I'm really not happy with it. I think it's just too rich for my tastes and from now on I'll stay with the Tasti D-Lite fat free, 10+ calorie version of the original.

Good way to end the day........

This is hysterical and made me laugh after what has been a very trying day. I'm not going to take sides and say who is right and who is wrong, except to say that I hope with everything I have that the US does not take the Israeli side because this is not our war. Oh my god, Pat Buchanan and I agree on something. Well my week unfortunately hasn't gotten better. I tried to use my bank's check card last night and it was declined. I know that I have more than enough in my account to cover what I was trying to purchase, so I called Commerce Bank. Well after being told there was fraud on the card and because it was afterhours, I called this morning. Imagine my shock when the customer service rep told me, that someone had tried to purchase $11 worth of shoes at Payless in Kansas. I'm nowhere near Kansas and I have never been to it.

So I go to Commerce Bank this morning and took the appropriate steps to stop whomever has my card from being able to use it again. David, who helped me rectify my account situation at the bank (and by the way was extremely nice and knowledgeable), told me some steps I can take to safeguard my account. I think everyone should know David's tips as identity theft is, sadly, becoming more common.

1. Always take money out from a bank's ATM. The banks all have the same carrier that services their ATM machines. If you go to a convenience store, delis or bodegas, the ATM's are not as safe. They don't have the same servicer as the banks. That's not to say those atms aren't safe, according to David, they are still safe 99% of the time.

2. If you're going to travel out of state, call your bank and let them know. The banks track your movement and so if they see a transaction out of the ordinary, a red flag goes up. Just to save yourself any stress, call them in advance. Also this helps to let them know where you are, because they'll be able to quickly spot any transactions out of the norm.

3. Call your bank to let them know your current phone numbers (home and work), if you move or change the numbers. Also do the same with your address. This was what I failed to do and I could've saved myself a lot of stress had I updated my profile with the bank. When I opened my bank account, I had a different phone number and a different job. My bank tried to call those numbers and didn't reach me. But the great thing about Commerce Bank was they immediately put up their fraud guards. It took me 22 days later, when I tried to use my bank card, to find out the fraud on my account. I can't say enough good things about Commerce Bank and the excellent job they did to secure my account at the first sign of fraud. Also there was zero liability on my part as far as the fraudulent transactions.

Hope this is helpful.

P.S. To the mofos out there who had my information, karma's a bitch.

P.P.S. Commerce Bank is along the East Coast. Look them up online. They are commerceonline.com. Seriously the greatest bank in the world.

Is there a cheater on Project Runway?

Is it cheating or an homage? This is all over the newspapers and blogs and I thought I'd share it too (if you haven't read it all ready). Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge Project Runway fanatic (yeah I'm that into PR). So last week Keith Michael won the first challenge with the navy bedsheet dress (which I loved). But is Keith copying from famous designers in real life? Take a look at the above image, Keith's drawing is on the left and compare that to the original from Lacoste's Spring 2006 line (which showed in September 2005). It looks like an exact copy to me. But check out all the pictures and the full story on Keith on omgblog.com.

P.S. It looks like Keith has spoken out about this controversy. I'm not really buying it.

Update: It looks like the links to the pictures won't work anymore, so just check out omgblog.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I'm stressed out. So Project Runway debuted Wednesday night and I am loving it. It is the best reality show and pretty much the only show I have to catch every week. Based on the first week's innovation challenge, I loved Keith who made the winning navy dress (it was so pretty and definitely the type of dress I would buy) but I didn't think it was that creative as he used bed sheets which really is just fabric. I also really liked Robert (he is the Barbie doll dress designer) and his dress with the metal chains which he fashioned around the neck to look like a cascading necklace. Laura and his fur cuff coat was gorgeous and Kanye's red bodice top dress was totally cute too. But my favorite was Michael's coffee filter dress. It was so wonderfully constructed plus who would have thought to use coffee filters? Absolutely fabulous!!

It's too early on for me to have a favorite contestant. This season's contestants look really strong. But I do have one complaint about Project Runwayh. My only complaint is why I have to wait until next week for a new episode?

The power of stiletto heels.......

Lately I've been wearing a lot of ballet flats and I love them. I mean they're cute and comfortable and look great with everything from jeans to skirts. But today I decided to switch it up as I have a very cute yet comfortable pair of light bronze 3 inch stiletto heels (they're gorgeous). Well let me tell you I got so many unprovoked comments from guys walking on the streets today (I hate those comments by the way). I was thinking about why I was getting so many comments about the way I look today (I mean I was wearing a long sleeve pink Polo button down and navy city shorts, nothing remotely revealing or sexy) and I've come to the solution that stiletto heels have great powers to attract men. So ladies behold the power of stiletto heels and use them.

AI Taylor Hicks as you haven't seen in him before.....

This has been making the internet rounds (including one of my favorite blogs TVGasm). There is just no mp3 player like it out there. I lost my first IPod to a leaky water bottle in my purse seven months ago. At first it was like withdrawal not having it, seriously the shakes happened because I wanted to have it when I went walking. After a long period without it (yet still missing it very much), I finally decided to get another one again for myself. I rushed home yesterday because I knew my brand new IPod was waiting for me. After loading all my songs on it, I took it out today to run errands with. I'm madly addicted again. I walked 3+ miles not even realizing it as I was too busy rocking out to IPod. I love my IPod!!

P.S. Sorry for the hokey picture. I do have an itching to craft and want to check Craftster to get some inspiration from the fellow crafty people out there. But alas the site is down at the moment. So I'm inspired to go about crafting myself and create the most beautiful necklace in the world (it's one of my designs and I've deemed it to be such because of the sheer greatness of the design in my head). I'm so not modest when it comes to my designs. I have another idea that has been in my mind for sometime and that is to silkscreen some of my own handrawn designs on tshirts. But I need some guidance on the silkscreening process. Does anyone who reads this blog do any silkscreening or can give me tips on how to learn it either through websites or by contacting me. Seeing as I know there is nothing for free nowadays, I'll offer to throw in one of my finished successful tshirts if your tips help.

P.S. Last night I went to APT to dance and drink with a few friends. We had SO MUCH fun and I've decided from now on that I'm going to go out all the time now and drink and dance as it's such good exercise and I can dance for 3 hours plus. Well the alcohol is not healthy but whatever. New and improved. Vers. 2.0 is going to be a quicker read about all things surrounding me but no more personal diary entries (sorry, I have to protect the innocent and not so innocent).

Seeing as the web is full of shameless self advertisement and hopping on that band wagon, here are some pieces of jewelry I made recently. I've really been into jewelry making and fashion and jewelry design lately. I'm trying to parlay this interest into a side project and hopefully in a few years a full time career. I really need someone to help me navigate in the fashion industry, so if anyone has any tips as to how a beginner designer can get her foot in the door, let me know. I'll be happy to reward you with a necklace, bracelet, etc. if your tips pan out.

Op Ed piece: Just my opinion.........

NOTE: THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. IF YOU DON'T SHARE IT FINE, WE CAN HAVE CIVIL DEBATE. BUT DO NOT TRASH ME FOR WHAT I AM ABOUT TO WRITE!!!

I have been thinking about this all day and I've decided that I need to write about this very serious subject that is front and center in the headlines every day lately. It's the battle of illegal immigration in the U.S. I should preface this by saying that I'm not a Latino-American so I can't say that I understand all the reasons of this movement. I also should say I don't know how I feel about it yet as I have very strong feelings for both sides of the aisle and I think that should I be asked to debate one side, I could effectively do it. But I have a problem with this story that I saw on the news and is on MSNBC's website.

A bunch of Latin artists have recorded a Spanish version of our national anthem and retitled it "Nuestro Himno". It is meant to be a 2006 rallying cry for the illegal immigration movement that is sweeping the big cities like what We Are the World in 1985 served as a call to the aiding of starving Africans movement. Like We Are the World, it is a collaboration of musicians, i.e. Latin pop stars including Ivy Queen, Gloria Trevi, Carlos Ponce, Tito "El Bambino," Olga Tañon and the group Aventura. Joining and singing in Spanish is Haitian American artist Wyclef Jean. Now I don't know much about Latin music (like I said I'm not a Latino nor do I speak Spanish or really have contact with the hispanic culture here), but Gloria Trevi I believe is a Mexican, along with Carlos Ponce (is he Mexican American?). What I'm getting at is I think that when our national anthem is played or sung, it should always done with respect. After all, our anthem is a symbol of what our forefathers fought for so that we would have the freedoms we enjoy today (no matter what are politics are). This is true of every anthem in the world, whether we personally support their politics or government. To rerecord our US anthem into something it never meant to be is downright disrespectful. Let's take the argument that what these artists are doing with the "Nuestro Himno" is purely for artistic impression and that it is in protest to convey a larger message. However, this group of artists is not representative of the entire US population. Let's not even bring into the debate mix, the fact that there are people who are not US citizens in this mix. I bet if we turned around and recorded an English version of the Mexico or any South American anthem with all caucasian Americans, there would be a huge outcry as to the jingoistic nature of the Americans and how we want to convert everyone in the world to be just like us. So why then is "Nuestro Himno" considered to be a protest song and that everyone should just relax and accept it? I don't accept it the anthem should be sung as it was written and I can't believe that I am on President Bush's side on this one!!

Again, if you don't like what I am saying, I welcome your counterarguments.

First Look at the Devil Wears Prada...........

Here's a preview of one of my chick lit guilty pleasures The Devil Wears Prada. In fact my friend T and I have said that we should write a book about horrible dating stories. I have a top 3 list of horror stories and I thought I'd share one of them with you.

When I was a size 0/2, I went out with a Wall Street financier ("WS") to a hotel bar one night. This was my first official date with Mr. WS and we had decided drinks only. He picked a very fancy place (to try to impress me) and we decided to meet there. Well I was so busy that day at work that I didn't get a chance to eat. So when I showed up at the hotel bar, I explained to Mr. WS that I hadn't eaten all day and was it okay if I grabbed a bite to eat. He was like fine, order what you want. Well this place was uber pricey and not wanting to be the girl who dates for free meals (yes there are a lot of them), I decided to have a hamburger (still $15 but that's another story). So my food comes and his drink comes and we're talking. The date's okay but I'm not really sparks (I mean he's telling me he drives a Porsche and that he makes $500,000/year and that's without the 6 figure bonus at the end of the year, SO NOT ATTRACTIVE IN MY BOOK). After I had finished half of my burger (without the bun as this was still at the time of the whole Dr. Atkins' low carb craze), I needed to puff on my inhaler (I have asthma)so I excused myself to go the bathroom. When I get back, my half eaten burger (with the buns still intact) were gone. I'm a bit confused as to where my food went and I ask Mr. WS. He's like "I had the waitress clear our table. It's not good for you to eat so much." WHAT??????? I'm a size 0/2 (I'm 5'9"). I had explained to him beforehand that I hadn't eaten all day and I was hungry and he tells me to order and then HE TAKES MY FOOD AWAY? Well that was the end of the date for me. I offer Mr. WS money (which he doesn't take) and go home. I thought that was the end of Mr. WS but it wasn't as he kept calling me thinking we had a wonderful date and told me it would have been better if I took him upstairs to my apartment. EWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AS IF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any good bad date stories? I know everyone has them and guys should share about their bad girl dates too (yes it exists).

P.S. Just a tip for girls, if you want a guy to keep fawning after you and keep contacting you, treat them with indifference or like you just don't care. Trust me it works everytime.

My new love......

I think I'm going to start a favorites post once a week. It'll be on clothes, shoes, makeup, food, etc. This week I am fawning over this Kenneth Cole dress that I see everyday when I walk by their store everyday. I'm not ashamed to say that I am officially in love with it (even the $298.00 price tag). The reason that this dress is so awesome is wrap dresses flatter any figure (including if you want to hide things). This one is very spring like (and can be worn in the summer too) but has sleeves so if you are still working on toning your arms for the summer, it'll hide those parts too. Also I have had tremendous success with past Kenneth Cole dresses. My favorite wrap dress is this size 2 Kenneth Cole black one that they made 4 years ago and men literally fawned over me when I wore it. That one is staying in my closet as thinsperation.

I personally would wear this with ballet flats (if you want to go casual, i.e. brunch) or strappy gold sandals like these Target ones for only $27.99. Hey no one will ever know unless you tell them. Finish with long strands of big pearls wrapped around your neck at different lengths (or whatever you like) and a cute evening bag and you have the perfect date outfit. Sorry, I can't help you with the date.

Cougar hunting, I think not.......

I'm watching Prime right now. It's the movie with Uma Thurman (how beautiful is she!!) and Meryl Streep. Uma's character is a 37 year old divorcee who is dating a 23 year old man whose mother (Meryl Streep's character) is her therapist.
So the theme of the movie of older women dating younger guys made me thing there is a guy who has a crush on me and he is younger than me (I'll call him Dave, the name of the character in Prime). I know it is fashionable for older women to date younger guys, I mean look at Kim Catrell in real life and on SATC. Also the Post just had this article about it (which actually makes us older women look kind of scary).

I just can't get past Dave's age. I mean I once tried to go out with a younger guy a couple years back. Everything felt awkward even though we were only 2 years apart in age. I think that guys just getting out of college are just finding their way in the world and I'd like to think that I've been through some of that journey already (and am somewhat jaded, though to be honest). I am attracted to him somewhat but I don't think it's enough to take it beyond being friends. With a few drinks in me, I don't know if I'd be able to say no.

Grandpa I love you......

My Grandpa died 4 years ago this past weekend. I can't believe he's been out of my life for that long. I was thinking as I drove back home this afternoon back into the city with my sister D and her boyfriend J, how much I hated this route we were taking because it meant that we were dropping off my grandparents at the airport and I wouldn't see them for a long time. I remember how when I was a little girl I hated milk with my cereal but my Mommy always made me eat it that way. One time I rebelled and I poured water into my cereal which my mom said would be awful and it was. I wouldn't eat it anymore but my mom said I had to finish it. Grandpa feeling sorry for me ate the bowl of cereal for me so I could get something else to eat. That was how much my Grandpa loved me. In honor of my grandpa, here's a song that makes me think of him.

Pride and Prejudice.......

I read Pride & Prejudice when I was 9 or 10 years old and I count it among one of my favorite books. So I have wanted to see this movie version with Keira Knightley (who is gorgeous in real life) and I love this movie!! Now I want to see the version with Colin Firth playing Darcy which I hear is the holy grail of all the versions of Pride & Prejudice. If you have a chance rent it or catch it on demand.

P.S. It just came out in the U.S. and I was excited to try it. I figured since it was coffee flavor that I would substitute my morning coffee with this new drink (I mean I used to love Diet Coke for breakfast). Well I opened it up and it smelled funny. Kind of like coke with a hint of coffee and something I couldn't identify. I decided to pour some into a little cup and then... YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is seriously nasty!! It's like rancid coffee with a hint of Coke meets bubbles. I made such a loud noise of disgust that J who sat next to me wanted to try it too. I gave her the bottle and when she opened and sniffed it, she was like "this smells nasty." After a sip, she threw away the entire bottle. So it's not just me. After doing such a good job with Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, I have to wonder WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

While trying to find an image of Coca-Cola Blak for you, I found this article on Consumer Reports online that didn't exactly sing the praises of Coca-Cola Blak either. The writers said that this drink has been out in France for a year and that the French version is better as it tastes more like coffee and is less sweet. I'm still not convinced that I like the idea of coffee with bubbles, but Coke, why can't we Americans have the French version? Has anyone else tried Coca-Cola Blak and do you like/hate it?

Shoo fly don't bother me.....

Being spring, I somehow got a fly in my apartment and I can't get rid of it and it's driving me nuts. I'm looking for cute and comfortable spring shoes and I love these. They look perfect with the current boho-chic or prim and lady like trends (big for spring 2006 and always one of my faves) that I really love right now. They are made by Me Too and are called Sarita. I found them at Strawberry's (a low cost juniors' store in NYC) of all places (shh, it's my guilty shopping secret). For those of you who don't have a Strawberry's, I found them online here for a reasonable $69.99 (with free shipping too!!). But I've been awake for 2 hours trying to think of excuses but I just can't think of any good ones. I mean I was just sick last month. So J read it and then she sent it to her friend T. Well we were talking about it. I mean this article is that good. Among the things it said according to Tina Brown (sister of Whitney's brother Bobby Brown):

*     *    *    *    *

Whitney spends days locked in her bedroom amid piles of rubbish.

There the woman who co-starred with Kevin Costner in the 1992 hit movie The Bodyguard smokes crack, uses sex toys to satisfy herself and ignores personal hygiene.

When high on drugs, she imagines she sees demons and is being beaten by them.

The sad truth is that she bites and punches her own body without realising it.

*    *    *    *    *

Tina also claimed Whitney was so wasted on drugs that she wet herself — then put on a baby’s nappy.

And once Whitney smoked crack on the way to a rehab clinic.

Tina recalled: “She’d say, ‘I’m just gonna act crazy’.”

Trust me you have to read this entire interview. J and I read it with our mouths open and giggling the entire time. But we both wanted to buy a copy of The Sun as they published the exclusive pictures of what Tina Brown says Whitney's bathrooms looks like but who wants to pay $5 for a British newspaper. So I'm reading Perez Hilton and he published the photos. View the photos on Perez's website.

2 days and counting........

I'm not suicidal that UCONN lost. In fact I had told my friend B that I had a feeling that they were going to lose to the Washington Huskies. Well my feeling was right albeit delayed. I'm just delaying as I've been having too much fun lately. I have to buckle this week. Also I've been really bad on the Apple Cidar Vinegar diet. It doesn't really work. Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

I've been dying to dye......

Darn Blogger was down for a while and I had so many things that I wanted to tell you guys. Instead it left me with lots of free time on my hands and that's never a good thing. I've been dying to dye my hair and my hair stylist Y is totally against it right now because I'm still repairing my hair from years of coloring it blonde. So today when I was at the drugstore I saw these John Frieda luminous color glaze and it made me want to try it. After reading the not so great reviews on makeupalley, I couldn't try it but I was still thinking about what to do with my hair. I decided after an hour or so that I just had to get this obsession of coloring my hair out of my system. So I brought a box of hair dye, L'Oreal Excellence Creme in Light Ash Brown (based on the great reviews that L'Oreal Excellence Creme gets on makeupalley and their tips that to lighten dark hair, you should NEVER use a golden tone). The color looks kind of dull and mousy on the box so I stood forever in the drugstore deciding if I wanted it, but finally decided to bite the bullet and get it. Thanks to makupalley, the results are good. It's not as light as I want, but I like it.

Speaking of drugstores, I've been to like 4 or 5 of them in the past 2 days (they are on every block in my town) and I still can't find the Cadbury Creme Eggs. What's up with that? Does the Easter Bunny know of this egg shortage?

It's day 2 of my Apple Cidar Vinegar diet thing (I've been drinking 1 tablespoon with a cup of water/2 times a day). I haven't been eating healthy though because yesterday I was so busy as I had to run to the doctor's during my lunch hour and didn't have time to grab food and so I went hungry until 8 p.m. I finally learned why you shouldn't skip a meal because the first chance I got, I started wolfing down every single thing I could get my hand on. I did something really bad too because I decided to stop at my favorite Korean grocery store after seeing Dr. L after work and being hungry and shopping for food is just not a good combo.

I wish I could tell you the Apple Cidar Vinegar was doing wonders for my body, but I don't feel anything different except for drinking very sour water (which I don't mind because I'm very partial to vinegar, in fact, I used to drink balsamic vinegar by itself). Tip: I found 1 tablespoon of vinegar was better than 2 as 2 tablespoons of the vinegar gave my mouth the puckery feeling afterward. I saw my regular physician yesterday for my allergies and she told me that I have been losing weight but told me that I have to keep up at it. I have noticed the weight loss too. I do look and feel better. I love the way I look in clothes generally and that I have more energy. Yesterday I walked 3+ miles just for the hell of it. This time I'm also motivated to lose weight for me and not because I'm single or because of exes. I do have to say though I notice lately that guys are always complimenting me on how hot, gorgeous or checking me out on the street. The obnoxious ones just whistle at me. Yuck. Men!! Why do they think that's attractive?

APB out: missing egg report.....

I want to put a missing egg report out because there are no Cadbury Creme Eggs to be had near my home. My friend J was craving them today and so she had me craving them too (I haven't had one in I can't remember how long). So we went to Rite Aid and they were all out of them. So since J surprised me and bought my lunch I wanted to do something nice and surprise her with some creme eggs tomorrow. I had to run to Duane Reade after work and lo and behold there were none there too. Is there a shortage of creme eggs in the US? For some reason she started telling me about drinking apple cider vinegar for weight loss and has already lost 10 pounds in 2 months. Then she's like I'm going to email you the details. I was a little paranoid at first as to why she would mention this apple cider vinegar weight loss diet to me and I mentioned it to J who told me that I was being silly and Z was just making conversation with me. Anyway, I decided to check out Z's email about the apple cidar vinegar and I decided that I wanted to try it to. I didn't really understand the email but basically what it promises is to flush out your body system which is always a good thing. What you do is drink a tablespoon or two of organic apple cidar vinegar with 8 ounces of water. It's really important that the vinegar be organic. I brought mine at my local organic food store for $2.69. Z says she brought hers at the Vitamin Shoppe. You drink the water/vinegar mixture several times a day, Z says some people only drink it before they eat, but she drinks it throughout the day. I think I'm going to drink mine before I eat. I'm told that it's bitter and that I should sweeten it with honey or sugar. But I think I want to drink mine plain. Besides that you eat a sensible diet and the pounds are supposed to fall off just like that. We shall see. Does anyone want to join me on this? I will post my results.

P.S. I could use a favor from my readers. I got this position as a contributor of a magazine (the same one I wrote the open letter to in an earlier post). The editor has allowed me to write about anything. I want to know if any of my readers out there would have a specific topic they think would be good to write on, especially one that effects women today.

Happy St. Paddy's Day.....

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!! I have a new insurance carrier, Aetna, supposedly one of the better insurance companies out there. Imagine my shock then when the pharmacist told me I couldn't get my prescription filled because Aetna required that my doctor call beforehand and fill out paperwork so I can get prior authorization (I don't have an HMO plan and my insurance is supposedly one of the better plans they offer). The pharmacist knows that I've been taking this certain medication for a few months so she advised me that I might not have medicine for a few days until the authorizatin came through and needed to take care of this insurance situation with my doctor ASAP. To make sure I would have my medication, I decided to pay $40 out of pocket for this drug.

This incident at the drugstore got me thinking about the healthcare situation in this country. I don't take this drug because of some life or death illness. Also I'm fortunate enough that this medication is not too expensive and that I'm able to afford the money out of pocket (well it means a couple less drinks this weekend for me). Yet I know millions of Americans face the same situation I faced today and have no choice but to go without healthcare or medication because of the cost. I know my friend AM told me recently that the receptionist at her job had to forego her cancer medication because of a lapse in their company's coverage from switching from one insurance carrier to another. There was a glitch in the switch and was no fault of AM's receptionist.

I'm not going to pretend that I have an answer as to why healthcare is so expensive in this country. But these are my very unresearched thoughts. I'm not going to rant against physicians. My sister D is in her third year of medical school and I can already see how hard it is for her to be a doctor. I see the sacrifices she's made with the cost of medical school, books, equipment, etc. More importantly I see how little time she has for herself, her boyfriend J and even for sleeping. I think doctors deserve every penny they earn. I'm not going to rant against the drug companies either as it's expensive for research and development of drugs. However, I question why they spend so much money marketing drugs to physicians and hospitals by buying meals, comping vacations, giving out freebies like printed t-shirts, mouse pads, coffee cups, and pens (sorry D, I know you love getting the free stuff and I do love hearing your stories). I know the drug companies' response is that they are getting the information out to the doctors so more Americans can be helped by the drugs the companies have. But don't you think more Americans would be helped by the pharmaceuticals lowering the cost of their drugs by tens to hundreds of dollars rather than them spending millions wining and dining a select few every year? Just my thought.

I'm not too proud to beg.....

This is an open letter to the magazine in which I emailed the link to this blog. Well maybe in my world it does or is about to. My friend S emails me today and wants to know what my schedule is because she wants me to meet a friend of hers, C. I've seen his picture and I have to admit he's kind of cute. I'm also told what a nice guy he is ( a genuine good guy). Another positive is a friend of S's who is also an acquaintance of mine is always wanting to hook up with him (I'm that competitve girl who likes to win her man and know that I'm hotter than that girl). I politely declined S's offer for anything romantic between me and C. The reason is S had "made out" with C several times before (I'm told almost about a year ago and because the two of them were drunk). Now I had the same thing happen to me 4 years ago in a different city on the best coast. It was with another girl friend of mine, J (aka Crazy J) and another guy who is also named C (aka as C2). Anyway Crazy J tried to set me up with C2 and when I started liking C2, she got jealous. There was one night when the 3 of us went out and Crazy J let me borrow a top of hers. Anyway C2 and I were flirting up a storm and Crazy J got upset and ripped off my top and stormed off stranding me (she was my designated driver too) at 2 a.m. I was left in my bra and jeans in C2's apartment (yes he was very excited about that). Needless to say that was the end of my friendship with Crazy J.

So I told S this story and the details in my email to her and when she emailed me back I started to laugh and almost fell out of chair. C (S's C) is single, an attorney who is involved in local politics and is going to run for local office. C2 is single, also an attorney who is a local politician and is running for a seat on the Hill. Oh the coincidences. S is convinced it's destiny that me and her C meet now.

P.S. C2, you imagine yourself to be a young JFK. Well in the words of Lloyd Bentsen, "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy."

My life is yet unwritten......

My friend J gave me this link a couple days a go and I just got around to checking this out and I thought I'd share it with you because I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. I swear I am going to be up all night playing with this. Check this out. pandora.com What pandora is it's a website that helps you discover more music that you like. You type in the name of your favorite artist or song and it creates a channel and you can tell it if you love a song and to play more like it or if you hate a song, to immediately stop playing it and to never play it again. Try it, you'll be hooked as I am. I got my friend S hooked on it too. I also found my new favorite group The Veronicas.

Speaking of music, my favorite song right now is Unwritten,by Natasha Bedingfield (who I have to say is gorgeous too, I'm so jealous but she is a thinsperation). I love her songs, but with Unwritten the lyrics are my life to come. Here are some.

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you,
open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten....

Oh, Oh

I break tradition,
sometimes my tries,
are outside the lines
We've been conditioned
to not make mistakes,
but I can't live that way

Something sweet for you......

On my Mommy and I's shopping trip Saturday, I found these Ice Breakers Berry Sours. I've never seen the berry kind before, just the regular sours which I already love. So I convinced Mommy to buy these for me (I told you she is one of two greatest people on earth). Let me tell you I LOVE LOVE THE ICEBREAKER BERRY SOURS!! They are my idea of the perfect candy as there is no sugar, zero calories and are tart. The tin says that there is 53 candies in there, but after you have 10 or so in a row, your tongue starts to hurt just a little because of the sourness and it upsets your stomach a bit (in a good way) so that you won't eat the whole tin. I wish I asked Mommy for more than one bag (which is 2 tins).

P.S. I know I still call my parents Mommy and Daddy at my age (20s). My friend MM thinks I'm wierd because I do. But I think if you had parents like mine who love me unconditionally, including allowing me to graduate with a degree where my grandparents asked me what kind of job I could get with it, financially still at times (yes I'm ashamed to admit), emotionally and most of all have allowed me to make my mistakes from afar and but be right next to me to pick me up when I fall from them, well MY parents deserve the title of Mommy and Daddy. Thanks for loving me so much Mommy and Daddy. I love you both!!

Celebrate good times.....

Happy Mardi Gras!! Tonight will be a short post. I know what the 4 of you who read my blog are thinking - it's more like phew, no verbosity tonight. I'm going out to celebrate Fat Tuesday with my friends B&B and some others. We'll have some yummy food, some jazz music and of course alcohol, all in honor of New Orleans. If you get the chance tonight, celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras even if you're not catholic (I'm not and I'm not from New Orleans either). It's a way of celebrating the spirit of survival and everyone has survived something, whether it's Katrina, for me it's my break-up from M and my journey from being a size 0 to 16. Get the point? Have fun!! Lots of love, Girl.

Links, links and more links......

I wanted links to some favorite sites of mine, but I couldn't figure out how to do it on my old template (green, blue dots). I'm sure it's just me as I'm new to blogging. So I found this new template and as the french say, voila. It's pink too (my favorite color). The google news is standard. A Socialite's life is an entertainment and gossip blog with some commentary on current events. The blogger Miu von Furstenberg writes so cleverly that I have to visit her site every day and if I miss a day I get withdrawal symptoms. I don't watch that much reality tv (except Project Runway, go Chloe Dao), but I love the bloggers over at TV Gasm because they have me rolling on the floor literally blogging about shows like The Bachelor (that's still on?) and the umpteenth addition of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge. On a rainy day I pour over all their posts. Perez Hilton has about the bitchiest blog on the planet, but that's why I love him. Perez always seems to have the best scoops. Good job Perez!! My friends call me the mark because they know when I'm coming to the Saks' makeup counter. I buy so much makeup and hair product and most of it is a waste of money. Then I found Makeup Alley an online products' review by real women who are not paid by the makeup companies. The reviews are honest and really helpful. The only problem now is I can't buy anything without checking the site first. Delush is similar to Makeup Alley except it's a blog written by two women (Melissa and Jen).

This is not meant to be preachy, but tax time is coming up and if you have some dollars coming back to you from Uncle Sam, maybe you'd like to donate $20 or more to a non-profit organization. The Network for Good is a good place to search for charities and they keep a track of your donation history so you can know who to donate to again next year at tax time (hint hint). Share the love people. The next link is to Hungry Girl. If you read my blog you know I'm dieting. I check out this blog so many times per week, sometimes five times a day. They have so many good suggestions (as well as good weight loss tips). Through this blog I've found my new favorite fast food, the Lean Cusine Chicken Club Panini (which you microwave). Trust me for $4.79 at my local grocery store and 3 minutes 45 seconds in my microwave I have a 320 calorie hot, bubbly, crispy and delicious sandwich. Check out the site!! You'll be glad you did. It's helped in me shedding 15+ pounds. I've been sheltered my entire life so when I moved out on my own I had to learn to do a lot of things on my own. This is a favorite site of mine on the internet, eHow.Com. It teaches me how to do so many practical, every day, real world things, i.e. the time I spilled wine on a cream colored persian rug and was panicking on how to remove the stain. eHow is my life saver. Finally, for all of you who may think I'm just some vapid, shallow girl who likes makeup, clothes and boys well I'm really not. I'm actually quite deep but only those who are close to me get to share in that part of it. Since I'm baring my soul in this blog, I thought I'd share a bit of the "deeper" part of me too. I added a link to my favorite poem, Yeats "When you are old". My favorite lines in the poem are also what I'm searching for in my guy,

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face.
Isn't that beautiful? The great thing about this site is it also offers an analysis. Check it out.

My little hair miracle product.......

I got my haircut yesterday by my stylist Y. I've been going to her for over a year now and she is just the best. I love Y so much because after a haircut with Y, I call my mom and rave to her that this the BEST haircut I've ever gotten in my life. I never say that ever (in my 20 something years on this earth) and now I consistently say it. Anyway, my only complaint with Y was she used to lecture me all the time about my dry hair. I've colored my hair for many years (at one point I was blonde and I'm not a natural blonde but you'd never know that if I didn't tell you). I've bought every shampoo, conditioner and treatment in the market from the cheap drugstore brand to the high end $70 something per bottle salon or specialty store brands. Nothing ever worked and I thought I was doomed to getting the tsk tsks from Y for the rest of my life. Then I met this:

What is it you ask? It's Ojon™ Restorative Hair Treatment. "Ojon™ Restorative Hair Treatment is a unique, highly-concentrated hair rejuvenator and scalp nutrient made with 100% pure Ojon™ oil — the same rare oil used for over 500 years by the Tawira Indians of Central America known as 'the people of beautiful hair'™." To find out more, check out the website here. My only complaint would be it's somewhat strange smell (a smoky, cigarette, ashy smell with an extra something I can't describe) but you get used to it and with the miracle properities I can pretend I smell like an ashtray for an entire night once in a while. I got mine at Sephora for $55. I swear it's the best investment you'll ever make for your dry hair.

This is what Bush thinks of us......

I've alluded in the past to my political leanings. As you can obviously see I'm not a Bushie lover. I'm upset these past few days because of Bush's insistence on going through with the port deals that would put New York's, New Jersey's, Baltimore's, New Orleans', Miami's and Philadelphia's ports in control of a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates. What's the big deal you ask? The United Arab Emirates' largest city, Dubai, is a banking center thought to attract funds from groups such as al-Qaida. What is Bushie thinking by his insistence to go through with this deal (besides the obvious middle finger to the nation, do you like the picture, I found the link here)? Could it be because Treasury Secretary John Snow, who was previously Chief Executive Officer at CSX rail corporation (before he became Treasury Secretary) sold its port operations to Dubai Ports World in 2004, according to Senator John Kerry of Massaschusetts? Hmm, something sounds offs here. Now the White House is saying that Bushie didn't know that the UAE owned the company until after the deal was done? As Senator Sue Myrick, a Republican from North Carolina, says in a letter to Bushie:

“Dear Mr. President:
In regards to selling American ports to the United Arab Emirates, not just NO — but HELL NO!”

My sentiments exactly. Sorry for the politics today but I'm upset with this story. I promise to go back to blogging about my adventures soon (I'm getting my haircut Friday, maybe I'll blog about my adventures there, although my stylist Y always does an excellent job but she does always insist on blowing my hair big).

Read more for yourself about Bush. I found some great information on MSNBC here.

Team McSteamy......

It's back to work today and my girlfriend J and I are gossiping about our weekends. Sometime during the morning she asks me if I watched Grey's Anatomy this past Sunday. I'm probably one of the few people on earth who doesn't watch that show and Desperate Housewives too. She says to me "you have to watch it now. There's Dr. McSteamy." I'm like, "Dr. McSteamy?" J says, "Oh yeah. He's about 20 times better than Brad Pitt on his best day. When I first saw him I gasped." J and I proceeded to look him up. Oh my god was J right. I started giggling when I saw him (I'm not the giggling kind either). So in honor of my new crush and the most beautiful man in the world, this ladies is Dr. McSteamy, aka Eric Dane. I'm sorry to say he's married to Rebecca Gayheart (the Noxema girl and Dylan's wife in Beverly Hills 90210), who I have to say is beautiful but she's not me. Oh well a girl can dream.

The original Eric Dane image came from here.

Happy Presidents' Day.....

My friend S and I had the day off so we decided to have brunch then go shopping. I don't feel so bad anymore because I didn't blow her off this time and met her at Cafeteria. She's so unique that one (she's trying to get me to move with her to the wrong coast, which btw I love too). She had mac and cheese there but she couldn't eat it as is (trust me I had a bite and it was yum). She needed ketchup mixed into her m&c. Yuck!! As for me, I had one crab cake and a little bit of egg whites. My diet is not all that shot.

To work off our calories, S and I took advantage of the sales afterwards. I got a pair of Earl Jeans, a Ralph Lauren button down and RL sweater. Also I got this pair of Fendi sunglasses (sorry the image is bad I took it with my Treo).

It's one of those big and round frames favored by Nicole Richie who I think looks great now thin and I'm not alone, my friend J thinks so too. I sincerely hope Nicole is skinny the healthy way though. Not to sound preachy, but I have some experience in this. I was just talking about this today with my shrink Dr. L and we talked about my three year struggle with diet pill addiction and my still on-going struggle with eating disorders and how it's messed up my body (you ballon up once you stop taking the diet pills guys; that's part of the reason I balloned from a size 0 to 16). Dr. L talked about my unrealistic body image as I'm 5'9" tall and probably not meant to be a skeleton size 0. It's a struggle with me everyday about how I think I look but I have to say today is a good day because I got Earl Jeans and they are size 10 baby!!

Pink nails always cheer me up.....

So I check my blog here and I'm surprised I have 2 views. I have 2 profile views!!!! That means at least 2 people have read the previous entries and oddly I feel a bit violated. My first instinct is to shut down this blog. That was earlier today, after a few more hours of thinking, it dawned upon me that maybe I'm not so alone in the world as I think in these feelings of fat, ugly and frustrations. Maybe that's why 2 people stumbled upon my blog. So I'm going to continue this blogging thing. Plus it's a great way to keep my hands occupied as the combo of Essie Limo-Scene and Revlon Sheer Snowflake Pink is drying on my nails (I love pink).

I stumbled across an article today in the New York Times which had me thinking. It talked about a website called DontDateHimGirl.com. This website allows women to post names of guys who have cheated on them. This had me thinking about an ex whom I'm pretty sure he cheated on me. There were certain things he did which hurt me terribly and were horrible for me according to my friends who witnessed the relationship and breakups. As much as I hate him for hurting me, I would never post his name on a website like that. I don't think it's fair to him because every relationship has two sides and if you asked him being with me was no picnic either. I'll admit it. So what I'm getting at is posting a name on a website like DontDateHimGirl.com is in my opinion only revenge which is short lived and may seem sweet. But women of the world, you're still left with the remnants of hurt and if the people found out it was you who did it, don't you look like the jealous, petty and scorned one? I say instead of posting names take the higher road. Look fabulous too and that's the best revenge!!

P.S. For the 2 people who stumbled upon my blog, please don't comment that you thought this was about some girl and porn webcam she has and you're never visiting me again. All I want to do is shut myself in my apartment. Well I do need to go out for food and there are those plans.... Anyway, the reason for my awful mood is yesterday at work I'm in our mailroom and we have this one temp mailroom guy. So Mr. Temp Mailroom Guy is from the wrong coast (I'm from the right one, or maybe it's the left one, whatever it is it's the BEST one). Anyway, Mr. TMG wants to visit this one attraction but he doesn't know my coast and it's a 5 mile walk. That's totally doable, but not for someone from the wrong coast. So I'm telling Mr. TMG that and we sidetrack to why he can't pick-up women on the streets on my coast (YEAH to my girls, you have GREAT taste). Sidenote: listen, guys, trying to pick up women as they're rushing to and from their daily lives is generally not a good idea. So I tell Mr. TMG that and he's acts all surprised that men try to talk to me on the streets. Huh? Mr. TMG, who is five feet tall and talks in the most ghetto accent ever. This is the same Mr. TMG who works in my mailroom? The words still hurt. I feel ugly and fat now.

Only in my world............

So here's my story. I've been sad all day because it's Valentine's Day. Yeah, yeah. I know, totally cliché tale of being the single girl today. I can't hide my single status either as I'm one of the only ones at work not to get a big bouquet of flowers today (except for an offer by my friend S but only if I send one to her too). I decided I must have a really good story to tell as to why I'm a poor singleton today (yes, Bridget Jones reference). I mean only in my world, can you balloon from a size 0 to a 16 and back down because of problems with exes. But I'm determined that this blog is just the beginning of my story and that this story has a middle for me with lots of prince delightfuls (I'm not convinced in Prince Charming anymore) and finally a happy ending.
